‘Ah! What the actual hell is this?’ I turned my head to look at him, only to find my heart was already racing like a horse. The scrawny little thing had some kind of…’
‘Ah! Ah, Master.’ His voice was very calm, almost gentle. ‘I know you’re not supposed to…’ He paused for a moment, then continued, ‘But I couldn’t help it. I’ve been…’
Sorry, Master.’ He said with a bow, ‘I didn’t mean to alarm you. Just wanted to…’ His voice broke here, and I realized he was trying to say something but couldn’t find the right words.
The cat’s tail twitched. It felt like someone was staring at it from across the room, but I turned my head and saw nothing.
‘He’s sorry.’ I said finally, ‘Just don’t let that little thing near you.’
‘Thank you, Master.’ He nodded, then turned back to his book with a look of genuine regret on his face. ‘I’m really sorry…’
The cat let out a small meow. It was so soft and sweet, almost sweet enough to make me want to do something I shouldn’t.
‘Alright, alright.’ I said, trying to hide my own laughter behind my mask. ‘Focus on your studies. Don’t get distracted.’
But the cat’s presence felt too strong for that. It was like it could read my mind or something. I turned back to him, meeting his deep brown eyes, and saw a flicker of understanding.
‘You’ll be alright, Master.’ He said softly, as if reading my thoughts. ‘Don’t worry.’
The cat gave him one last meow before retreating into the shadows. I turned back to my studies with a smile, though part of me still felt uneasy about that encounter.
Just then, the door bell rang. He picked up his little tool belt and went out without another glance. I sighed, but deep down, I knew there was something deeper than just a stray cat behind that incident.
Maybe it wasn’t just a coincidence after all.
