“Insufficient Funds.”

“不够用了。”

林安 international broke his phone, and the screen immediately went blank. He stared at the broken device for a few moments before finally throwing it across the room with enough force to make the curtains flap.

“Whoa, you’re not okay, kid,” Luan said, standing behind him with a concerned expression. “What’s happened?”

“Just had some bad luck.” The words came out of his mouth without any hesitation. “I’m sorry, ma’am.”

“Sorry won’t cover it when your phone just dies halfway through an important meeting, will it?” She tilted her head slightly, clearly not buying his explanation.

“Uh… yeah, I guess so.”

Silence was heavy between them as the two of them stood there, each holding their ends of a heated conversation. Luan’s face was pale, and even though she was dressed in her usual casual outfit, it still looked like she had just stepped out of a hospital. Lin An was on the verge of tears himself; he didn’t know if he could handle this.

“Are you okay?” she finally asked, not waiting for any sort of affirmative answer before reaching out and gently placing a hand on his shoulder.

He jumped back with a start, but managed to maintain eye contact long enough to give her a small smile. “Yeah… I’m okay.”

She stepped closer until she was almost hugging him, and he couldn’t help but feel a strange mix of warmth and something else—but whatever it was, it definitely wasn’t fear.

“Do you know how long I’ve been waiting for this?” she said, her voice soft yet full of intensity. “I’ve been thinking about you non-stop. You’re the only one who can make me feel like… well, anything.”

“Anything?”

She chuckled nervously before pressing her lips to his in a very gentle kiss that sent shivers down Lin An’s spine. He returned the favor with all the fervor he could muster.

Their eyes locked as they were carried away by the heat of passion, and for what felt like an eternity—or maybe just a few minutes—this was exactly where they wanted to be. After what felt like forever, they finally pulled apart slightly, each catching their breath before taking in the rest of each other’s faces.

The way Luan was looking at him still made his head spin, and even though she had managed to keep her composure better than he did, it wasn’t easy watching her like this. He could picture all the things he wanted to do right now—take her to some exclusive club or restaurant where she would be completely safe—and it made him realize how lucky he was.

But as much as he wanted to spill out everything right now, he knew better than to give in. After all, there’s always tomorrow—or maybe even later—but right now, all he could do was hold her tighter and make sure she didn’t get hurt again. One more time…

As their lips parted for what felt like the thousandth time that day, Lin An couldn’t help but think that they were finally… real.

*The End.*
